Apartment Review for Wimberly At Deerwood - Jacksonville, FL

The grounds of this property conveniently located on Jacksonville's Southside (Southside Blvd and Touchton Road) are well maintained. However, it is a shame that sprinklers are used every day like clockwork, even coming on during torrential downpours. The majority of the residents here are good people, however, it does appear as through there are a lot of transient/migrant workers that occupy units on the property. The Wimberly claims that background screenings are performed, however, it is highly unlikely that they will deny anyone occupancy here... if you can pay, you can stay. The trash compactor is small, and residents do not have the ability to operate it. This causes a daily ritual of unsightly trash piling up outside of the unit, which is tended to each morning by maintenance staff. The Wimberly is a gated community, however, vehicles frequently piggy-back through the gate, or the gate is malfunctioning, and the illusion of security is defeated. The units themselves are nice, with modern appliances. The buildings appear to be aging quickly, and some breezeways have broken handrails and loose stairs. The office staff appears to try to be helpful, however, they seem to just tell residents what they know you want to hear so you will go away. They do not follow-through on information that they provide to tenants. With a change in staff, some better screening of tenants, and a few maintenance changes, this could be a nice property. Equity Residential offers a nice "Rent With Equity" program that allows you to earn credits towards the purchase of a new home... you will need them, as you should not stay here more than one lease term.
