DO NOT MOVE HERE
Review Date: 2/6/2009 Reviewer: Anonymous
In a nutshell, the place is a nightmare. The property owner would rather not have anything to do with the people who live there and the property manager feels pretty much the same. The maintenance is NON EXISTENT. The buildings are falling apart. I had a rat and bug problem off and on the entire time I lived there. When the hurricanes came through water poured into the wall from my living room window (the wooden sill outside was rotten) and a large mold growth formed. I notified the office immediately but four weeks later it had grown to cover the entire wall under the window. The solution was to paint over it with standard wall paint. Four days later the mold showed through again. Things seemed good when I first moved in. The property manager was great but had to leave due to medical complications. The next one was not a people person. When a new one was hired I decided to be forgiving and renew to see if things would change for the better. They did not. This is a place where you are expected to take what you are given and have to fight tooth and nail for anything. I have lived in several places in and around the Riverside and Avondale area. The apartments in the area are mostly old but tend to be in very good shape. There are very few slum lords left in the neighborhood and this is one of the remaining slums. The sad fact is, if the owner would invest just enough to keep the place up to code (maybe replace the original electrical wiring that is absolutely not compliant in my old apartment there) it would be a very nice place to live. But as long as maintenance is paid the lowest salary possible and the qualifications of leasing personnel remain being able to make problems "disappear" the complex and their other adjoining properties will continue to be a drag on the area. |
